Elliott lent the money that let Chinese businessman Li Yonghong buy AC Milan in 2017. When Li failed to repay, Elliott took control of the club in July 2018 and immediately pledged to run a sustainable model under UEFA Financial Fair Play rules.

Over the next four years Elliott repaired the balance sheet, professionalized management, and backed a young squad. In May 2022 Milan won its first Serie A title in 11 years with a 3-0 final-day win at Sassuolo.

A month later RedBird Capital agreed to buy the club for €1.2 billion, with Elliott retaining a minority stake and board seats. Gordon Singer said the plan had been to create financial stability and return Milan to where it belongs in European football.

Elliott steadied the club's finances, saw it win its first Serie A title in 11 years, and sold to RedBird for €1.2B while keeping a minority stake.

Elliott's ownership began with a written financial-stability plan.

Fixing the balance sheet preceded and enabled sporting success.

The €1.2B exit priced the rebuilt club above its debt-laden past.

A creditor can become the best owner: fixing the balance sheet first gave Milan the platform to win on the pitch and resell at a profit.

RedBird took control in 2022 with Elliott retaining a minority interest and board seats. The club stayed competitive in Serie A and Europe under its new owners.
