What was changed
Huang Shuliang founded a cashmere-coat factory in Tongxiang, Zhejiang, that sold over ten million yuan a year. At the end of 2022 his eye disease worsened toward blindness and his core partners walked out, taking money and people and deleting client data — leaving an empty 'shell'.
On January 16, 2023, he called his daughter Huang Yuxiang, 26, an e-commerce executive in Shenzhen. She quit the same day, flew home, and on New Year's Eve ran her first livestream from the empty factory, raising nearly one million yuan in cash to restart production.
She rebuilt clients door-to-door, opened the 1688 marketplace store her father had wanted, and added spring-summer categories to use capacity. Within about two years the factory's annual sales passed ¥100 million — more than under her father — with cashmere coats ranked first in 1688's outerwear category and 2025 sales up 20%.
What it achieved
Went from a 'shell' factory to annual sales above ¥100 million, with cashmere coats ranked first in 1688's outerwear category; 2025 sales rose 20%.
Why it worked
She liquidated stock via livestream to restart cash flow.
She rebuilt customer relationships account by account.
Marketplace and content channels replaced lost clients.
New categories put idle capacity to work.
What can be applied
A successor can save a family factory by starting from zero channels: liquidate stock fast, rebuild trust account by account, and use livestream and marketplace tools the founder never touched.
Aftermath
Heyin Apparel moved from the brink to growth, with Huang Yuxiang winning second place in a national factory-competition showcase in 2024 and the father-daughter turnaround featured on Hunan TV's business reality show 'The Boss Is New' in 2026.
