Cracker Barrel's fourth-quarter results, reported September 23, 2026, beat Wall Street's expectations and lifted the stock more than 3% at the open. Revenue was $849.3 million, down 2.2% year over year, with same-store sales down 2.1% and traffic down 6.1% — but average check rose 4.2%, and adjusted EBITDA climbed 11.4% to $62.1 million. New CEO David Deno, six weeks into the job, said the team 'made hard calls, listened to guests, and got the business back on track.'

Deno inherited a turnaround already in motion. His predecessor Julie Felss Masino exited in late July after three years that included the 2025 rebranding campaign and its quick reversal after an outcry from longtime guests, after which the chain returned to traditional branding and prioritized food, operations and service upgrades. In its final quarter under Masino the company was tracking to meet or exceed the high end of its revenue and earnings guidance. Deno's philosophy: 'doing fewer things better,' with the formula of great food, a great guest experience, and employees who deliver both.

The plan under Deno doubles down on the same levers: upgrades to chicken, hamburger and steak with dinner as the biggest opportunity; a ramped-up breakfast menu and marketing for the strongest daypart; continued investment in retail product and merchandising as a differentiator; and personalization built on a 2023 loyalty program that has over 12.5 million members driving over 40% of sales. Service metrics moved with it: Google star ratings up 2% to near an all-time high, food taste and service scores up nearly 400 basis points, hourly turnover better by 450 basis points.

Q4 FY2026 adjusted EBITDA up 11.4% to $62.1M on $849.3M revenue; FY2027 outlook of $3.325–3.4B revenue with 3–5% same-store sales growth

Deno's stated management philosophy is 'doing fewer things better' — concentrating on the opportunities with the greatest impact.

Dinner was identified as the biggest food opportunity, while breakfast remains the strongest daypart worth marketing harder.

The 2023 loyalty program's 12.5 million members already drive over 40% of sales, making personalization the cheapest growth lever.

Operations improved measurably: service scores up nearly 400 basis points and hourly turnover better by 450 basis points.

After a rebrand fiasco, recovery is deliberately boring: concentrate spending on the core product, the strongest daypart and the loyalty base you already have, and do 'fewer things better.'

CFO Craig Pommells described 'continued gradual improvement' in traffic, with off-premises sales at 19% of restaurant sales and a tariff refund leaving a net $9.1 million benefit, of which $5.9 million was reinvested. For fiscal 2027 management guided to $3.325–3.4 billion of revenue assuming 3–5% same-store sales growth and no new stores, with Deno promising meaningfully improved profitability and cash flow. The company also launched a new website to simplify the guest experience.
