What was changed
Deddy Corbuzier had spent nearly 25 years in entertainment: first as a mentalist and then as a television personality with a popular talk show. By 2018 he saw high-income Indonesians consuming more digital content while television tried to chase attention with increasingly slapstick programming.
He left television in 2020 and pivoted to YouTube and podcasting. His new show, Close the Door, made conflict and access part of the product: Corbuzier invited politicians, entertainers, and controversial guests, packaged episodes with provocative titles, and published every one or two days through a 40-person production operation.
The pivot changed the scale of the business. The channel reached around 20 million subscribers, local media placed Corbuzier first among Indonesia's highest-earning YouTubers, and Social Blade estimates cited in the report put monthly income at about $350,000. In 2022, DMMX and SiCepat each bought a 12.5% stake in the production company.
What it achieved
Close the Door reached around 20 million YouTube subscribers; monthly income was estimated at about $350,000, and two investors each took 12.5% of Dektos Digital.
Why it worked
He recognized that a valuable television audience was moving to smartphones and streaming services.
YouTube let him own the show and publish at a cadence television could not match.
Provocative packaging turned disagreement and access into repeatable attention.
A 40-person production machine made frequent, hour-long episodes operationally possible.
What can be applied
When an audience migrates platforms, a creator can carry trust across only by rebuilding the format, cadence, and production system for the new medium.
Aftermath
Dektos Digital began investing in other YouTube channels and explored extended-reality technology that could make remote interviews look co-located. The model also carried reputational risk: after public backlash, Corbuzier removed and apologized for one LGBT-related episode, but the report said the show's ratings recovered quickly. The platform pivot survived its first controversy because the underlying production system was already in place.
