What was changed
International Holding Company chose an active-investment model rather than a passive conglomerate structure. Management described the approach as buying high-value, cash-generating businesses across real estate, healthcare, food, financial services, AI, energy, and other sectors, then building links among them.
The decision showed in 2023 results. Abu Dhabi Media Office reported IHC revenue of AED60.1 billion, up 17.9%, with AED32.95 billion of net profit and growth credited to strategic acquisitions plus stronger existing businesses in marine, dredging, and real estate.
IHC kept expanding in 2024. Its annual report said revenue reached AED92.7 billion, assets AED401.8 billion, and profit after tax AED25.7 billion, while management framed the model around active investments and dynamic value networks.
What it achieved
Revenue grew from AED60.1B in 2023 to AED92.7B in 2024; 2024 profit after tax was AED25.7B on AED401.8B assets.
Why it worked
The group concentrated on sectors with durable cash flow instead of one cyclical asset class.
Acquisitions were paired with a portfolio thesis, giving subsidiaries access to capital, customers, and adjacent capabilities.
The holding-company architecture let IHC move into new sectors quickly while keeping listed-company reporting around the whole platform.
What can be applied
A holding company scales faster when it actively connects portfolio companies instead of passively collecting unrelated stakes.
Aftermath
IHC became one of the region's most visible listed investment platforms. Its challenge shifted from proving scale to proving discipline: maintaining returns, governance, and transparency across a very broad set of controlled and associated businesses.
