TVS Motor, India's third-largest two-wheeler maker with revenue around ₹36,000 crore, spent a year preparing succession: the family signed an MoU to plan future management, and in April 2025 TVS Holdings and TVS Motor began an ownership transition that made Managing Director Sudarshan Venu a significant beneficial owner.

On 5 June 2025 the board elevated the 36-year-old Sudarshan, son of Chairman Emeritus Venu Srinivasan, to Chairman and Managing Director effective 25 August. Current chairman Sir Ralf Speth, a non-family professional, chose not to seek reappointment and stepped down after the AGM on 22 August, staying on as chief mentor for three years.

The board cited Sudarshan's 'exemplary contributions' to sustained growth: under his leadership TVS had already turned around market share and pushed global expansion in Africa, ASEAN and Latin America. He was also MD of TVS Holdings and chairman of TVS Credit Services, so the family's key vehicles were already under his charge.

TVS handed the ₹36,000-crore maker's chair to the next generation; under Sudarshan it had already turned around market share and expanded overseas.

The family planned for a year — MoU, ownership transition, beneficial-owner step — so the August 2025 change formalised an arrangement, not a surprise.

Sudarshan had run TVS Motor as MD, TVS Holdings and TVS Credit, so the chair came with an operating track record attached.

Keeping Ralf Speth as chief mentor preserved the professional chairman's strategic continuity while the next generation took control.

Plan the handover before the event: TVS used a family MoU and ownership steps, made Sudarshan the beneficial owner, and kept the outgoing chairman as mentor — power and continuity transferred.

After taking over on 25 August 2025, Sudarshan outlined a five-to-ten-year push built on global expansion, two- and three-wheelers and scaling lending, while Venu Srinivasan stayed chairman emeritus and Speth continued as chief mentor. The handover kept the transition gradual rather than abrupt.
