Granules India, the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical manufacturer, spent nearly three years with flat performance before returning to growth in FY26 — the result of a deliberate shift, in executive director Priyanka Chigurupati's words, from volume-led generics to more selective, higher-value products.

The proof is in the mix: complex generics grew from 1% of revenue in FY20 to 33% in FY26, accounting for roughly 45–50% of finished-dosage revenue that year, with oncology and peptide contract development and manufacturing among the new pillars of the business.

In October 2026 the company drew up plans to invest about Rs 2,000 crore over the next three to four years — directed at complex generics, oncology, peptide CDMO, US operations, manufacturing capacity, R&D infrastructure, digitalisation, AI-led manufacturing excellence and quality systems, per CFO Mukesh Surana. Chairperson and managing director Krishna Prasad Chigurupati said the established vertically integrated business will remain the cash-generating base as the company enters what he called a new growth cycle.

Complex generics grew from 1% of revenue in FY20 to 33% in FY26 — about 45–50% of finished-dosage revenue — and Granules returned to growth in FY26.

Volume-led generics is a price war the biggest scale players win; moving into complex products changes what the company sells, not just how cheaply.

The vertically integrated commodity base was kept as the cash engine, so the higher-value pivot did not depend on outside capital.

Peptide and oncology CDMO work rides durable demand from big pharma outsourcing rather than the company's own pipeline risk alone.

A commodity manufacturer escapes price competition by moving up the complexity curve in its product mix first, then funding the next step with the cash base it kept.

The Rs 2,000 crore organic capex plan targets the next three to four years across complex generics, oncology, peptide CDMO, US operations, manufacturing capacity, R&D infrastructure, digitalisation and AI-led manufacturing excellence.
